Tasmania is the very first state in Australia to offer audio guides on the Vacayit travel app, Australia’s only audio-based tourism platform for blind and low-vision travellers.
Tourism Tasmania has partnered with Vacayit to produce 50 audio guides showcasing a range of experiences across Tasmania’s regions. Blind and low-vision travellers can explore Cataract Gorge, cruise along River Gordon, amble along a forest trail, tour a distillery, and more with Vacayit’s rich sensory descriptions and engaging storytelling.
There’s even an audioguide for Tasmania’s Taste Of Summer festival, a feast for all the senses!
The audio guides also include accessibility information, highlighting wheelchair accessible paths and bathrooms, Braille signposts, audio-tactile traffic lights, accessible parking, sensory considerations, and more.
Over 575,000 Australians are blind or have low vision, and these Vacayit audio guides are a major step forward in welcoming them to Tasmania, a world-class travel destination.
Best of all, you can access the audio guides for free via the Vacayit app, available for download from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. For more information, visit the Vacayit website.
